TORIMBA FESTIVAL TO GO AHEAD IN 2020

The 2020 TORIMBA Festival will be going ahead, with a few changes to the events to keep within the COVID 19 laws and restrictions. The opening of The Festival of The Forest on the 3rd of October will include the usual competition and raffle, with the addition of a wood chop display and sausage sizzle outside and around Festival Hall.

Due to the extra pressure COVID 19 has put on year 12 students and their studies, it is with great sadness that the TORIMBA committee have decided to forego the TORIMBA Queens and in turn, the Miss and Master, for this year. Restrictions also result in the TORIMBA Ball and street parade having to be cancelled.

On a more positive note, the Colouring In Competition, the Best Decorated Windows and Businesses, the Bowl’s Club Bingo and RATS Quiz Night will all go ahead, observing all the restriction laws in the process. There will be a Monster Goose Club Raffle in lieu of the Queen Entrant’s Raffle and if any businesses or persons wish to donate, any form of prize would be gratefully excepted. You may have a bag of potatoes, some plants or gardening products, a food hamper, or a bottle of something delicious to donate. All contributions ‘great and small’ will be enormously welcomed!

As you will all appreciate, in these questionable times, these plans may change, so please watch this space. The TORIMBA committee can still get things up and running at short notice, so will leave any cancelled events ‘open to change’. The Ravenshoe and District Weekly will keep you all updated as news comes our way.

Let’s keep all the fun and festivities going and remember, this year’s theme is ‘PIXAR’ (Anything involving the PIXAR movie franchise).

High on the Tablelands of North Queensland, the township of Ravenshoe has been celebrating the “Torimba Festival” since 1969. This community event is a celebration of Tourism and Timber with events running over two weeks in October each year.

Festival of the Forest

Timber craft exhibition is held during the Torimba Festival. Talented craftsmen from around the nation enter their best work to be judged and viewed by festival goers. The Festival of the Forest showcases Ravenshoe’s heritage as a former timber town as well as putting Ravenshoe on the map for tourists as a ‘must see’ destination.

Torimba Mardi Gras Parade

A highlight of the Festival! Locals and visitors alike celebrate and participate in old fashioned games and activities, Truck Pull, Woodchop, amusement rides, and market stalls all on the Main Street of Ravenshoe. The excitement of the street parade fosters community spirit that unites the town and district.

Torimba Ball

The culmination of the festival, this is the Queen Entrants night of nights with the crowning of the Torimba Queen, Charity Queen and Miss Personality. It is a great opportunity for entrants, volunteers and locals to glam up and party the night away to live music and dancing, which once again brings the community together.

Two Weeks of Festivities

The Torimba Festival has an exciting array of events from a golf ambrose, barefoot bowls, hoedown, cake stalls, poetry reading, bingo and so much more. There really is something for everyone!
